2017 will be filled with unique activities as our two historic sites observe anniversaries.
Fort Laurens offers a salute to 100 years as a state memorial in August; and the historic village of Zoar will fill out the year with multiple events celebrating the 200th anniversary of its founding by German Separatists in 1817.
Fort Laurens commemorates 100 years as a state memorial with a Centennial Celebration on August 12, 2017.
Throughout the day, enjoy tours of the museum and grounds, speakers in the auditorium, nature and history walks along the towpath and much more. Families are welcome to participate in canal boat races, colonial kids games and crafts, as well as a Dressed for Battle timeline where visitors can interact with soldiers from American conflicts from the Revolutionary War through World War I. As a way of thanking the community for a great 100 years, this entire event is FREE! The Centennial Celebration will run from 10:30 a.m. through 5 p.m.
In addition to regular events such as the monthly speaker series, DogFest (June), Harvest Festival (July), Civil War Reenactment (September), Ghost Tours (October), and Christmas in Zoar (December); the historic village of Zoar kicks off its Bicentennial with “Bicentennial Sounds” on March 26th – a reception and concert for Zoar Village.
